We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage programme. We believe in teaching children to become ‘whole’ learners – developing them in every key learning area in order to prepare them for the future. It is our aim that during each child’s time with us they will develop in mind, body and spirit through interaction with a stimulating play environment. By providing a rich and stimulating environment that supports children, they discover, experiment and learn. We explore the children’s interests, build on their existing knowledge and teach in a way that is both meaningful and interesting to every child. Staff interact with the children throughout the day, enhancing their discoveries with structured questioning and discussion. Children are supported as they learn and parents will see children and their contributions being valued, respected and challenged and extended as appropriate. Each child will have a developmental profile available to parents at all times.
We have a system of key workers responsible for planning and day-to-day monitoring of progress. Key workers are available to parents to discuss aspects of their children’s learning.
We expect children in the Early Years Unit to develop independence and an eagerness to learn in preparation for our Transition School.
It is expected that each child should experience and attain all aspects of the new Early Years Foundation Stage by the end of the Reception year, thus covering the skills required for their future progress within the School. |
